Those of you who know me, will know that I wear a few hats – “THE BEER GAUGE” is my, lets use the word ‘hobby’ for want of a better word. My full time job is a Licensed Real Estate Agent and Acreedited Auctioneer. My role in the office is somewhat of an Office Manager, Administration, Sales and Marketing Co-Ordinator, and abit of Property Management in my spare time.

My Passion however is and always has been Swimming. I love to swim – and have been doing so since the age of 5. So when I am not working at all the above jobs – I teach children to swim on the weekend.

Why Is It Important to Be Safe in the Water?

Fish are able to live and breathe in water, but people need air to breathe. People drown when too much water gets into their lungs. When that happens, the lungs can’t carry enough oxygen to the brain and the rest of the body.

Drowning is the second most common cause of death from injuries among kids under the age of 14. Drowning can happen so fast — sometimes in less than 2 minutes after a person’s head goes under the water. That leaves very little time for someone to help.

Many drownings and near-drownings occur when a kid accidentally falls into a swimming pool. But accidents can happen anywhere — at someone’s home or even at your own house, and that’s why you need to know how to be safe around water.

Why It’s Important to Learn to Swim!!!

The first and foremost reason is safety. The dangers that any open body of water presents particularly to the young is the most paramount reason. Children are still dying in Australia due to backyard tragedies. If a child can at least acquire the skills needed to get to the edge of the pool then they have a greater chance of survival.

SO PLEASE, HAVE YOUR CHILDREN TAUGHT TO SWIM – by swim, I mean, they need to be able, if they fall in, the turn around, paddle back to the edge and pull themselves out – and we teach children at VICKIS SWIM CENTRE – PORT MACQUARIE www.vickiswimcentre.com.au to be able to do that from the age of 2 – 3 years old.

NOW TO KEEP WITHIN MY ‘NICHE’

THE DANGERS OF ALCOHOL AND SWIMMING

Alcohol is an enormous health hazard and is frequently a factor in road and boating accidents, aquatic resuces and drowning. A raised alcohol level affects judgement and makes an individual more likely to take greater risks, while at the same time impairs your ability to respond to a potentially dangerous situation.

A swimmer who has been drinking alcohol tires more easily and is less capable of swimming. Swimmers who have been drinking alcohol and who get into difficulty are also more likely to vomit and may inhale stomach contents into their lungs.

THAT’S ALL FROM ME FOR TODAY – IT IS NEARING 5PM – AND ALMOST “BEER O’CLOCK” (i wont be swimming of course_ – HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND AND STAY SAFE!!!!

Whilst doing a search for “THE BEER GAUGE” on google, just to see what might be out there – I was more then stoked to find the following two comments made by different companies in the ‘STUBBY HOLDER” industry.

The Beer Gauge Stubby Holder is one of those quirky promotional products that come up and everyone thinks – “Why didn’t I think of that!”

http://www.stubbyholders.com.au/blog/the-beer-gauge-stubby-holder.htm

The above comment was made by a STUBBY HOLDER manufacturer company – Promotions Only – they did a blog about THE BEER GAUGE on their website.

The next was written by a company called – Black Dog Promotions – after seeing THE BEER GAUGE on display at the 2009 Promotional Products Trade show in Sydney.

Pick of the Show

As I mentioned in my email of a couple of weeks ago, I attended the 2009 Promotional Products trade show in Sydney last week. As usual, it was a very big show, with an enourmous range of new and innovative products out there to help you sell your business.

This year I had a renewed interest and enthusiasm for the show, as several of you contacted me after my offer to look out for something for you, so I had a list in hand of specific clients with specific needs. It really worked well because I was able to keep those people in mind and ask detailed questions on behalf of those clients. Apart from sore feet, I also came away with new suppliers, new ideas, and new ways to market just about anybody or anything.

Apart from the ideas I had for those clients who responded to the original email, I also came away with a list of about 20 new and innovative products to tell you about. My “Pick of the Show” list.

After much debate and discussion here in the office, we have narrowed that list down to just six items, and believe me, it was tough to narrow it down. A lot of our suppliers have tried really hard in the current economic climate to be creative. That’s good news for you!

THE BEER GAUGE – WAS SECOND ON THE LIST OF THEIR PICK OF THE SHOW – TOP 6 (I have no idea how many products were on display at the trade show – but if they were able to narrow it down to a list of 20, and from there get it down to a list of just 6 – where THE BEER GAUGE featured, there must have been alot of promotional products on display.)

http://www.blackdogpromotions.ashop.com.au/g/41459/pick-of-the-show.html

IT’S NICE TO READ GOOD FEEDBACK ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT – MAKES ME FEEL WARM AND FUZZY

‘THE BEER GAUGE” a little bit of brief history of how the product came about.

In a past life, I used to be a regular visitor to the beautiful island paradise of Bali. The balinese are the most beautiful race of people you will ever meet, and can not do enough to give you excellent service – so much so, that in our local bar – “THE REUNION CLUB – TROPPO ZONE LANE, KUTA” – they are constantly asking, if you are ready for another BEER. This question then brings along with it, the very hard task, of you having to pull your bottle of Bintang, out of your stubby holder to see how much BEER you have remaining. It was at that point that it was discussed with myself and my good friend Dave ‘Higgo’ Higgins (famous Melbourne radio DJ, and fellow lover of BEER) – that someone should invent such a stubby holder whereis you could see how much beer you had remaining without taking the bottle out of the stubby holder.

Back to the reality of oz, and once again, kicking back having some beers, I was again confronted with the same problem, which got me to thinking about such an invention. The original plan was to have a clear plastic strip down the side of the stubby holder, but it was hard, if not impossible, to find such a clear plastic material, that would bond with the neoprene. It was also not cost effective. So next we (Can Do International manufacturers, and myself) tried a variety of different size and shape cut out holes, until I decided that the design I liked the best, was the design you see today – I thought it was the most effective design for 2 reasons, the holes were set out brilliantly to gauge your BEER’S progress, whilst also, not letting out any of the BEER’S coldness.

Very soon after, I decided that the ladies also needed a cool holder for their cruiser style bottles, as I hadn’t seen too many of them on the market, I went about designing a pretty PINK (my favourite colour) GIRLIE GAUGE for the ladies.

I am hoping now, with a marketing campaign that I am about to embark on, that you will start to see my product in bottleshops and other shops, around Australia, and maybe even in different countries. From there, I hope to further develop more products in the GAUGE range.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my very first BLOG. I thought I would begin by giving you the history of my product, and from hereon, I would like to BLOG about different BEER companies and products and anything else that I can find out about the beautiful amber fluid, that I feel may be of interest.

BUT until then, its NEW YEARS EVE 2011 – SO CHEERS TO THAT!!!!!!
